In the north of Sardinia, Stintino, which became an autonomous municipality on the 10th of August 1988, is a magical area for its omnipresent sea of unequaled emerauld green and transparency, and its beaches of dazzling, impalpable sand – that create a great contrast with the color of the sea. You must see the Pelosa beach to believe it!
Stintino is the perfect place to practice such sports as windsurfing, fishing, as well as golf, tennis and trekking.
A few families already lived in Stintino in 1885 – they had come from the neighbouring island of Asinara where they lived of fishing, and which they were forced to leave by a royal decree of the Parliament of the Kingdom of Italy who considered the small island as the ideal place to settle a penal colony for its splendid wild isolation
One cannot fail to visit the island of Asinara, which became a National Park in 1997, after the closing down of the Super Jail, considered to secure maximum safety for the detention of members of the Red Brigades and the mafia.
